Airlines to tempt travelers with wider seats
by Karla Cripps
Many airlines advise larger passengers who can't comfortably fit into a single seat to buy two. The biggest complaint among air travelers used to concern legroom. As in, there was never enough of it.
Passengers cried out for more space to stretch out and recline further.
In response, airlines reconfigured their planes to offer options like premium economy, allowing travelers to pay extra for added legroom without having to upgrade to business or first class.
Now, it appears the focus has switched from length to width.
Perhaps acknowledging the global expansion of waistlines, Airbus is giving airlines purchasing its new A320 passenger jet the option of adding extra-wide seats for large passengers.

Jon Jones, manager speak out after DUI arrest
After his arrest for a DUI early Saturday morning, Jon Jones posted a statement on his Facebook page. He started by saying he "screwed up big time."
"I'm truly sorry to those of you that I may have embarrassed in any way, to those of you with kids that I may have let down. I will prove to them as well as to myself that no matter what is happening in life, we can always work our way back and make things even better than before."
Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, went on MMA Weekly Radio and pleaded for fans to give Jones a chance.
"I would just kind of like to let the fans know to give him a chance. Give yourself a chance to get all the facts in yourselves, wait until everything gets said and done, and then at that point if you want to vilify him afterwards and you heard him speak and you heard him say his part and then vilify him, I can't control what people are going to say. But it is too soon; it is too quick in my opinion. He really is a decent guy. He's a very, very good guy, trying his hardest to be a good role model, a good example, and he wants to be that. No one's perfect and he's never said he was and never said that he doesn't make mistakes. It's a fact he made a mistake. He messed up and I'm sure he's going to come out and apologize and do what he's got to do."
I've been surprised by the amount and type of vitriol aimed towards Jones for this incident. I find drunk driving deplorable and have no problem with Jones (if found guilty) or anyone else who is found guilty of such reckless, selfish, disgusting behavior spending a whole lot of time in a jail cell.
But the comments here, on Facebook and on Twitter have had a gleeful tone. Too many people are happy that Jones screwed up. Let's be clear here. Jones could have killed someone. Jones could have killed himself. This arrest is no reason to rejoice.

Around the world in 30 dumplings
by Hoishan Chan
A dumpling may "only" be a pocket of dough filled with some form of savory or sweet stuffing. That, at least, is how we're defining them for the purposes of this article.
But they're more than the sum of their parts, a marvel of world cuisine, both simple and complex, local and global, adaptable yet fixed in their home regions as cheap, tasty staples to snack on.
We're pretty sure that, among their various incarnations, there are few travelers who will not have found at least one dumpling to their taste.
But if you happen to be among that minority, here are 30 dumplings -- or their near relatives -- to change your mind.
1. XiaolongbaoServed steamed in bamboo baskets, xiaolongbao look different from other types of Chinese dumplings, as the skin is gathered and pinched at the top instead of folded in half.

Customs stops delaying HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE devices after 'review'
HTC-branded crates have been trickling through customs for ten days already, following a total clamp-down earlier in May, but it's only now that they're able to pass through without lengthy extra checks. The manufacturer says it has "completed the review process with US Customs" and that it is "confident that we will soon be able to meet the demand for our products." That obviously raises the question as to why the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE devices were held up in the first place. The ITC had earlier ruled that HTC infringed on an Apple patent about data detection, concerning a handset's ability to recognize and move around personal data, for example between the contact entry and the calendar, and it had given HTC until April to remove that feature. HTC agreed to that, but it appears customs officials initially needed to check every box to ensure that products arriving in the US were of the compliant type. Meanwhile, the LTE part of the EVO 4G is still waiting for its luggage.

Bryce Harper checks out UFC on Fuel 3
On Monday, Washington Nationals phenom Bryce Harper hit his first major-league home run. Tuesday night, he checked out the UFC on Fuel 3 fights and got to take a picture with UFC Octagon Girl/Playboy cover girl Brittney Palmer. It's a pretty good time to be Bryce Harper.
Palmer, who was on the cover of the February 2012 Playboy, quickly shot down any rumors that might get started from the picture. After gossip blogger Terez Owens wrote that the two had "coupled" up, she tweeted, "Watch your wording, buddy!"
After Harper was intentionally hit by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, it made sense for him to take in some cagefights. The pros showed him how to throw a punch, and that may prove valuable when the Nationals head to Philly next week.

MMA Marketplace: Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix match-up of the walkout shirts
At Saturday's Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix final, Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier will face off in the finals of a tournament that neither was expected to win. It's time to break down the most important aspect of their bout: their shirts.
On the left, you have Cormier's shirt from TrauMMA which is designed as a nod to his Louisiana roots with the fleur-de-lis and hometown flag on his shoulder. On the right is Barnett's latest shirt. It's not designated as a walkout shirt, but it's his latest available.
Though Barnett's shirt would make a cool design on a black light painting circa 1996, it's falling flat as a t-shirt. For going with an unconventional color and meaningful imagery, Cormier is the winner. Buy his shirt for $29.98, and Barnett's for $19.98.

Next international edition of ?The Ultimate Fighter? will pit the United Kingdom against Australia
After success in Brazil with an international spinoff of "The Ultimate Fighter," the UFC will head Down Under, with fighting prospects from the United Kingdom taking on UFC hopefuls from Australia. The new show, called "Smashes," will cast in London on June 12 and Sydney June 15.
According to UFC officials, it's playing off the natural rivalry between Aussies and Brits. To the press release:
"Australia and the UK have a fierce, long-standing rivalry, and where better to settle the score than in the UFC's Octagon," said Marshall Zelaznik, UFC's Managing Director of International Development. "The popularity of MMA has exploded in Australia and the UK, with gyms opening all over the respective countries. There is an athlete in one of those gyms who hasn't had the chance to show the world what he can do ? The Ultimate Fighter is going give to him that opportunity. We're going to discover the UFC's future stars, you can bet on it."
TUF, American style has already produced plenty of British and Australian UFC veterans. Michael Bisping won season three and then went on to coach a host of Brits on season nine. Ausses George Sotiropoulos and Kyle Noke also made their name on TUF.
There is no word on coaches yet, but American fans can look forward to plenty of subtitles on English-speakers. Most of Team UK from season nine had that honor. By sheer history alone, my money is on Australia. Remember, they are descended from the British convicts of yore.

Video: Watch the McLaren MP4-12C hit the dunes of Abu Dhabi
Filed under: Performance, Videos, Middle East, MISC
The Middle East is an enormously vital market for McLaren, and not just because its oil barons have the cash to buy as many MP4-12C supercars as they and every member of their family could possibly want. While the team has only won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix once and has yet to do the same at the Bahrain Grand Prix - the only two in the region (discounting Turkey), the company is part owned by Saudi businessman Mansour Ojjeh, and another part by the royal family of Bahrain.
Little wonder, then, that the upstart McLaren Automotive is setting up no fewer than six dealerships in the Middle East, the first of which has just opened its doors. To mark the occasion, McLaren took its new MP4-12C to the dunes of Abu Dhabi and around the Yas Island Marina Circuit and brought a camera crew - armed with a RED video camera and Canon's new 1DX - along for the ride. The resulting high-resolution images and footage are worth a glance, so check 'em out in the gallery below, the video below that and the press release below them both.

Dan Miller appreciates the ?overwhelming support? from MMA community
Dan Miller's infant son is in need of help to fight kidney disease, and the MMA family has stepped up to help. Two different groups have sold shirts, fighters have donated memorabilia and worked at a seminar, and Nate Diaz, his brother's opponent last Saturday night, told a national TV audience to support the cause. Miller said he was overwhelmed by the support.
While MMA is multi-million dollar business, the sport is also big on family. Fighters bend over backwards to help each other out. Seeing that play out to help out young Danny Miller is heartwarming.

Switched On: Clash of the troubled titans
Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.
Fans of the Lincoln-Kennedy coincidences can appreciate similarly contrived dynamics in comparing Nokia and RIM (neither of which, contrary to the occasionally expressed opinion, has been murdered despite "Apple and Android" consisting of three words and 15 letters). Both companies are former smartphone market share leaders -- RIM in North America, Nokia globally. Both have had success in developing economies with efficient operating systems that they plan to support indefinitely. Both developed reputations for high build quality and good antenna design, and both were initially dismissive of the iPhone as they continue to see Android as the path to commoditization. And after precipitous market share declines, both hired new CEOs. Nokia, a European company, hired a CEO raised in Canada. RIM, a Canadian company, hired a CEO raised in Europe. These men now struggle with keeping their companies part of a viable alternative to the two dominant marketplace offerings.
Since embarking on their new operating system strategies, though, there have been many contrasts. While Nokia hired an outsider as a CEO, RIM hired an insider. Nokia decided to adopt a licensed OS; RIM decided to build its own (based largely on acquisitions). And now that both the Mobile World Congress and BlackBerry World conferences have passed, there's an opportunity to assess their comeback progress.

Alan Belcher?s kick is your Knockout of the Week
For this week's Knockout of the Week, we jump into the wayback machine to Alan Belcher's second UFC fight. At Ultimate Fight Night 7, Belcher easily took out Jorge Santiago.
Belcher will fight Rousimar Palhares next week at UFC on Fox 3. Will he be able to escape the grasp of "Toquinho's" famous heel hooks, or will Belcher's punching power win the fight for him? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
UFC on Fox?s Three Stars: Nate Diaz, Alan Belcher and Lavar Johnson
The UFC's first two airings on Fox didn't quite live up to fans' expectations. Junior dos Santos' 64-second knockout of Cain Velasquez was almost too quick to appreciate, and the second Fox show featured lackluster decisions. The third try delivered, as the main card filled with exciting bouts and great finishes.
Here are Cagewriter's Three Stars from the weekend. Tell us yours in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
No. 1 star -- Nate Diaz: The younger Diaz brother stepped out of his brother Nick's shadow with a perfect performance ending in the first submission loss of Jim Miller's career, then made the classy move of supporting Miller's nephew's cause. His performance earned him a title shot and a $65,000 Submission of the Night bonus, and his nice gesture won him new fans.
No. 2 star -- Alan Belcher: Not only did Belcher TKO Rousimar Palhares, but he did it like a BAWSE. He jumped into the lion's mouth, daring Palhares to slap one of his trademark heel hooks on before transitioning out and using ground and pound to win. Unlike Diaz and Johny Hendricks, Belcher was not promised a title shot for his performance, but he showed he's ready for the elite of the middleweights.
No. 3 star -- Lavar Johnson: Putting Johnson's bout with Pat Barry first on the Fox card was smart, because it would have been shocking if these two didn't deliver with a knockout in the first round. Though Johnson pulled it off with just 22 seconds left in the round, he did put Barry out with a devastating barrage of strikes.
