Weekend warriors: Eddie Alvarez and Andreas Spang make headlines
Though the weekend was dominated by some title fight in Atlanta, Friday night's Bellator and "The Ultimate Fighter" bouts brought plenty of excitement, both during and after the fights.
At Bellator, Eddie Alvarez made quick work of Shinya Aoki in their rematch, as Aoki had no answer for Alvarez's striking. Aoki's corner threw in the towel seconds before the match was stopped two minutes into the first round.
As shown in the video above, Andreas Spang took out Brian Rogers with a left hook in the second round after Rogers had been winning the bout. Afterwards, Spang gave the crowd in Cleveland two middle fingers and got in a scrap with Maiquel Falcao. Though he expects to be disciplined by the Ohio Athletic Commission, his spot in the middleweight tourney is safe.
He'll face Falcao there after Falcao earned his spot by outlasting Vyacheslav Vasilevsky to a split decision. In the lightweight tournament, Rick Hawn took just a round and 10 seconds to knock out Lloyd Woodard, while Brent Weedman took a split decision from Thiago Michel.
On TUF, Vinc Pichel and John Cofer turned in a three-round decision that was one of the best fights of the season. The first round featured stand-up which could have gone to either fighter, while Pichel's grappling gave him the second. In the third, Pichel got a quick takedown and arm triangle choke to get the win for Team Cruz. On Friday, Sam Sicilia from Team Cruz will fight Team Faber's Chris Saunders.

Flights rerouted as North Korea prepares to launch rocket

More than 20 commercial airline flights will be rerouted to avoid North Korea's rocket launch expected sometime between April 12 and April 16.
The North Korean launch is meant to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the country's late founder, Kim Il-Sung, according to North Korean authorities.
The secretive state announced the launch in March, emphasizing that the rocket's debris will not affect neighboring countries, and saying that its accompanying satellite is intended for peaceful purposes, according to North Korea's state news agency.
North Korea claims that the Kwangmyongsong-3 (Shining Star) satellite, carried by the rocket Unha-3, will be used to collect data on forests and natural resources.
But the United States and other nations fear the launch may be a pretext for a ballistic missile test, which would potentially violate U.N. resolutions created after a similar launch in April 2009.

While the Optimus 3D Max has made its first arrival in Europe, launching in Germany today, it looks like the phone won't be docking at British ports. A spokesperson at LG told us there were currently no plans to bring the device across to the UK, although its L-style series and the quad-core flagship, the Optimus 4X HD, look set to receive wider adoption. The Optimus 3D Max is the brutally carb-free version of LG's original 3D phone, now lighter and thinner but still gnawing on last year's Android Gingerbread. Pricing hasn't been announced for Germany, but LG tells us that it will be on the premium end of the smartphone scale, with pricing dependent on carriers. DJI multi-rotor aircraft with Ruling live video feed controller hands-on (video)
Well that's a mouthful. Shenzhen-based DJI Innovations was on hand at NAB today to demonstrate its new hex-rotor aircraft, designed to provide photographers (and videographers) with a low-cost tool for capturing aerial images. The vehicle we saw today, coined Spreading Wings S800 (its rotors retract for storage) is a fairly straightforward multi-rotor aircraft, save for a couple pretty slick enhancements. Even more impressive, however, was DJI's Ruling, a "ground control terminal" that enables you to adjust not only aircraft direction and elevation, but also the camera position, complete with a live video feed as captured by a Sony NEX-5N mounted on a multi-axis camera gimbal. The camera mount is designed to maintain a stable image regardless of the craft's position -- once it's fixed on a subject, it will adjust to retain the pre-selected angle.
The Ruling controller is very much still a prototype, with a yet-unpolished military green plastic housing and a built-in LCD. There's also dual joysticks -- one on the left to adjust the camera platform, and a second on the right to control the aircraft itself, letting you climb, descend and turn in every which way with a flick. The duo was very responsive during a brief demonstration, making calculated movements with what looked to be precise accuracy. The video feed was interrupted slightly by the multitude of wireless connections littering the Las Vegas Convention Center airwaves, but reps were still able to verify framing and adjust position -- the aircraft itself never faltered, with a maximum range of 10 kilometers (5km for the video feed, in ideal conditions). The Spreading Wings S800 is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship next month for roughly $8,500. That clever live video controller will cost you another pretty penny, however, with an estimated $5,000 price tag and a TBD ship date. You'll want to take a closer look in the video after the break.

While Canon, Sony and Red have already stolen the show with new camera announcements here at NAB 2012, Blackmagic Design is trying to carve out a niche for its new Cinema Camera. Priced at $2,995, where the company sees this as differing from the competition is its ability to capture film quality video on its 2.5K sensor and output it to CinemaDNG RAW, ProRes and DNxHD file formats. That camera housing can take Canon or Zeiss lenses on the front, contains a built-in SSD within and has a capacitive touchscreen display for control and metadata entry. Once you've captured the video, the included copy of DaVinci Resolve can take care of all color correction needs, while the video can be pulled from the SSD over a variety of high speed ports including BNC SDI and Thunderbolt. Nationwide water fights, traditional Buddhist rituals, parties, parades and plenty of alcohol. The Thai new year, better known as Songkran, is now officially under way.
Running from April 13-16 this year -- some cities stretch the celebrations out for a full week -- Songkran marks the beginning of the new solar year and the summer season in Thailand.
Though Songkran is more famous for the huge water fights that rock the streets of Chiang Mai and popular Bangkok tourist zones like Silom and Khao San Road, there is a traditional side to the event.
On the first day of festivities, families and friends celebrate Songkran by visiting temples and pouring water on each others' hands as a blessing, to start the year filled with good luck. People also pour water -- seen as a way of washing away bad luck -- over Buddha statues.
Over the years, those traditions have evolved into a nationwide water fight, a welcome form of relief given that April is the hottest month of the year.
